Tribute by Asit Aluwalia

Anil Gupta aka ‘Eloy¹ was a very good friend of mine. He was a gentle giant, very caring and affectionate. In school, he was in ballet and a few extra curricular activities. We spent a lot of time together since he lived close by. Very generous and giving, got along with everyone. He had a group of non MHS friends and he always made sure that I was included in that group.

I will tell you a very personal story of Anil & me

Anil came from a very rich family, and I came from the middle and middle of middle

class. Anil used to take 2000Rs on school trips such as when we went to Simla, I used to get 20Rs from my parents. He loved to live large, the best liquor, the best food (only 5 star), the best everything. His closest friends were not from Modern, they were all Uber rich from business families. Being a friend, he always included me in his expensive dinners, etc. One day I told him that I couldn’t go with him anymore because I was embarrassed that I couldn’t afford to pay 2000-2500 for dinner & drinks. He went nuts, he insisted that I go with him and whenever it was my turn to pay, he would slide his wallet to me so I could pay the bill.

That’s the kind of person he was.

I still miss him a lot
